Mob beats six thugs to death

Six members of a pirate gang, including its ringleader, were killed and four others injured in a mob beating in Subarnochar upazila of Noakhali district yesterday. Four of the dead were identified as Selim alias Jaillago Selim, 45, chief of the Selim gang, Shankar, Delwar and Maksud while the rest could not be identified. Chairman of Charclerk union Shahab Uddin said Selim and his gang secretly took position in Selim Bazar area on Thursday night to commit robbery. Sensing their presence in the following morning, locals chased the fleeing criminals and caught several of them from different shoal areas adjacent to the bazar. Locals also beat them up severely, leaving four of them dead on the spot and six others injured, police said. The injured were taken to Upazila Health Complex where two of them succumbed to their injuries yesterday afternoon. Two rifles, one pipe gun, ten bullets and some sharp weapons were recovered from the robbers, said Mosharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Subarnochar Police Station. Noakhali district Police Super Anisur Rahman confirmed the incident.
