Garment worker Mohammad Sohag, 22, and pedestrian Shariful Islam, 27, were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors said Sohag who sustained bullet wounds on the head was in critical condition. Shahidul Islam, an agitating garment worker, told this correspondent that around 3:00pm garment workers from a number of factories in Purba Rampura staged demonstrations to press home their various demands. They were marching towards Badda to encourage workers from factories in that area to join the demonstrations. A group of miscreants numbering about 25 to 30 and armed with locally made weapons obstructed the workers and when they tried to defy it the criminals threw brick bats at them. The workers also retaliated in the same style. The garment workers said they had heard sound of three to four rounds of bullet fire. Shariful was hit by bullet on the right arm. He was also admitted to the hospital.   Sohag is a worker at Riviera Resources Ltd at Purba Rampura. Officer-in-charge (OC) Iqbal Hossain of Badda Police Station said there was no garment factory at the spot where the incident of firing occurred around 3:00pm and those who opened fire were not policemen. The OC said police were investigating the incident. Shariful was hit by bullet when he was going home at Ananda Nagar to take lunch from his work place.
