A Jhalakathi court framed charges against Limon Hossain, the juvenile who was maimed by Rab shooting in the district in March 2011, Monday rejecting his discharge petition in an arms case.
Additional District Judge Kiron Chandra Halder passed the order against Limon turning down his appeal for acquittal in the arms case filed by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) against him and Morshed’s gang.
Reacting to the court order, Limon said: “I have been denied justice.”
"We did not get justice in the court and will go to higher court for proper justice," Limon's counsel Nasir Uddin Kabir said.
Henora Begum, Limon's mother, said the court framed charges against her innocent son without proper evidence "while keeping mum in my case against Rab which I filed after the incident".
The hearing on exemption prayer, which began Sunday, concluded the next day.
Rab filed an arms case with Rajapur police station against Limon and Morshed’s gang for possessing illegal arms in 2011 after shooting him.
While filing the case Rab also produced an old revolver with a used bullet cap as evidence with the Rajapur police station. They also filed another case accusing him of obstructing law enforcers from carrying out their duties on the same day.
A Rab team shot 16-year old Limon in the left leg when he went to fetch family cattle from a field near their house at Jamaddarhat in Rajapur Upazila of Jhalakathi. At the time, Limon used to work at a brick kiln to bear the cost for his education.
His injured leg was amputated from the thigh at Dhaka National Institution for Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation hospital on March 27 as the tissues of the left leg were totally damaged due to excessive bleeding caused by delay in his treatment.
On April 24 the same year, police submitted the charge sheet of a case that was lodged against Limon under the Juvenile crimes act and seven other members of Morshed Mizan group.
Limon obtained bail from the High Court on May 5, 2011 and was released from Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on May 9. He was again sent to Nitor on June 9.
The technical team of Centre for Disability in Development in Savar fixed an artificial leg on him on August 29 last year. After all these, Limon came home on October 13, 2011.
