Khaleda sad, unhappy

Staff Correspondent
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia last night expressed deep shock at the demise of President Zillur Rahman. In a condolence message, Khaleda said she was upset that the government did not bother to inform her about the president's death though she is the Leader of the Opposition. The BNP chief said she was shocked that there  was no official announcement on the president's death. And she came to know about it through media reports. Khaleda said the government neither sent any minister to oversee the president's treatment abroad nor kept people updated on his health. “I, on behalf of BNP, express deep sympathy for the bereaved family members of the president,      and pray for his departed soul.” She said Zillur Rahman was a soft-spoken, polite and good man.  He never made any derogatory or aggressive remarks about the opposition. Recognising his contribution to the country's politics, Khaleda said with his demise, Bangladesh has lost an experienced and wise political figure. His death has created a vacuum in the country's politics that would not be filled anytime soon, she said.
