Jubo League central committee member Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar was expelled on Saturday for his alleged involvement in a gunfight that killed two people in Chittagong city before five days. The gunfight took place between the activists of Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League, two pro-AL organisations, over the dropping of a railway tender worth Tk 1.5 crore at CRB in the port city on Monday. The central executive committee of Jubo League in a meeting on Saturday decided to expel Babar, General Secretary of the organisation Harun-or-Rashid told The Daily Star. Babar, who allegedly guided his group in the gunfight with BCL, was arrested along with his four associates at Gulshan in the capital early Wednesday. He was placed on a four-day remand on the following day. He is one of the 127 Jubo League and BCL men sued in connection with the murder case filed with Chittagong Kotwali Police Station. Forty-four people, out of 52 who were arrested a day after the incident, were placed on a one-day remand on Tuesday.
