The High Court on Thursday directed Rajuk and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to submit a report on reported 10,000 blacklisted buildings in the capital before it by July 8. The Bangla daily Jugantor on May 19 published a report saying that around 10,000 buildings in the capital have been made blacklisted since they were constructed through corruption and irregularities of Rajuk officials. The ACC’s special investigation team has prepared the list of 10,000 buildings in questions on information of Rajuk, the report said, adding that the ACC’s investigation team is facing obstructions to take legal action and run drives against those buildings due to non cooperation and tactics of Rajuk officials. Following the news report, one Mahbuba Khuda has recently filed a writ petition with the HC seeking necessary orders on the authorities concerned to take action against the people responsible for constructing the buildings. Rajuk Chairman Nurul Huda said that he was not aware of any blacklist of buildings. “We provided ACC with whatever information they asked on anomalies in building construction and ongoing cases in this regard,” he said. “We will respond accordingly after we receive the court order.” After hearing the petition, the HC issued a rule upon the authorities concerned of the government, Rajuk and ACC to explain in two weeks why they should not be directed to take action against the buildings in question, Deputy Attorney General Bishwojit Roy told The Daily Star. The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain fixed July 8 for passing a further order on this issue, he added.
