HC extends Fakhrul's bail by a year
The High Court on Monday extended for one year its earlier order that granted bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case concerning violence during a road blockade in December last year.
Kalabagan police filed the case against several opposition leaders and activists on charges of vandalising vehicles and preventing the police from discharging duties during the road blockade the opposition alliance on December 9. Fakhrul was shown arrested in this case on January 16 this year.
On February 4, the HC granted bail to Fakhrul for six months in this case.
The HC bench of Justice Borhanuddin and Justice Kashifa Hossain passed the order following a petition filed by the BNP leader seeking extension of bail.
Fakhrul’s lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon told The Daily Star that the one year tenure for extension of bail will be counted from August 3, when the HC’s earlier six-month period of bail has expired.
