The High Court will conduct its judicial proceedings virtually for two days a week in view of the current global economic situation and to help save energy and electricity.

Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury made the decision at a meeting with the Appellate Division judges at his Supreme Court office this afternoon.

“We are taking preparations under the instruction from the chief justice so that the judicial functions of the High Court Division are held virtually for two days. The virtual proceedings may be started later this week,” Supreme Court Registrar General Mohammad Habibur Rahman Siddiquee told The Daily Star.

Meanwhile, High Court Division’s Registrar Muhammad Nurul Amin Biplob issued a notification, requesting the bench officers concerned of the High Court to collect Zoom ID and password from the IT Section and to appear in person or through a representative, along with their email ID, password, and mobile number, by April 20.

The judicial proceedings of both the Appellate and High Court divisions of Supreme Court had been virtually run, in accordance with the Use of Information Technology by Courts Act, 2020 and the Practice Directions issued by Supreme Court for several months during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
