Transport worker stabbed to death in Narayanganj

Police say the killing may have stemmed from a dispute over a financial transaction

A 30-year-old transport worker was stabbed to death in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, early today.

The deceased, Md Sajib, was attacked in front of a tea stall in the Godnail Canalpar area around 12:30am, said Emdadul Haque, officer-in-charge of Siddhirganj Police Station.

Sajib, a resident of Godnail Nayapara area, worked as an assistant to the driver of an oil tanker, police said.

According to the initial investigation, several people beat Sajib before stabbing him during the attack, the OC said.

His relatives rescued him in critical condition and took him to Narayanganj 300-bed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 1:30am, he said.

“The deceased had injuries from a sharp weapon. He had a dispute with several people over a financial transaction. We have initially found that the killing was linked to that dispute. We have learned the names of several people and are investigating the matter,” OC Emdadul said.

Police said they were investigating the motive and the involvement of those identified in connection with the killing.

No case had been filed, and no one had been arrested until the filing of this report.
