Police ASI among 2 arrested with 5,310 yaba pills in Dhaka’s Uttara

Police have arrested an assistant sub-inspector and another man with 5,310 yaba pills in Dhaka’s Uttara.

The arrestees are Md Shafiqul Islam, 43, an assistant sub-inspector at Pallabi Police Station, and Wasim, 24.

Faim Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dakshinkhan Police Station, said police raided the area near Azampur kitchen market early Monday based on a tip-off. As officers approached, Wasim attempted to flee but was caught with 50 yaba pills. Based on his information, police raided a house and arrested ASI Shafiqul with 200 Yaba pills.

Following further interrogation, police raided a flat at Noor Building in Bismillah Polli and recovered another 5,060 Yaba pills, the OC added.

During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to bringing yaba from different parts of the country to sell in Dakshinkhan and adjacent areas.

A case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act with Dakshinkhan Police Station on Monday, accusing the duo and two to three unnamed individuals. A court later sent the arrestees to jail.

Pallabi Police Station OC Hasan Basir said ASI Shafiqul joined the station on June 8 but frequently neglected his duties, often citing illness and other excuses.
