Jatiya Jubo Shakti leader arrested in Chattogram over rape case
A leader of Jatiya Jubo Shakti, an associate body of the National Citizen Party (NCP), was arrested in Chattogram last night in connection with a rape case filed by a 19-year-old woman.
The arrestee, Aftab Mazumder Joy, 28, is a coordinator of Jatiya Jubo Shakti's Bandar area unit under the Chattogram metropolitan committee. He is also a member of the NCP's Chattogram metropolitan unit.
A joint team of police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) arrested him from the Halishahar BDR Ground area, confirmed Kazi Bidhan Abid, assistant commissioner of Panchlaish Zone.
According to the case filed on July 19, Aftab became acquainted with the woman through Facebook a few months ago and later invited her to meet him. The complaint alleged that he took her to a residential hotel in the Bahaddarhat area on July 14 on the pretext of spending time together and raped her. It also alleged that he cut off contact with her afterwards.
Police said Aftab will be produced before a court today.
Contacted by The Daily Star, NCP Chattogram's Publicity Affairs Secretary Ridwan Hridoy said Aftab is also a member of the party.
"He is a married man. If the allegation of moral misconduct is proved, he will be expelled from the organisations," Ridwan said.
