BNP hartal in 7 districts Tuesday

Shutdown in Chandpur, Faridpur on Wednesday
STAR ONLINE REPORT
BNP has called a hartal in Feni, Faridpur, Joypurhat, Madaripur, Tangail, Comilla and Chittagong for Tuesday protesting an arrest warrant against party Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman in a money-laundering case. The main opposition party will also enforce a shutdown in Chandpur and Faridpur on Wednesday on the same issue. The district units of the party and their associate bodies have separately called for the hartals. The party will observe a daylong hartal in Feni, Madaripur and Tangail districts, Comilla Sadar and Chittagong city while half-day in Faridpur and Joypurhat, our district correspondents report. On Sunday, a court in Dhaka cleared the way for the Anti-Corruption Commission to seek the help of Interpol in arresting Tarique in connection with the case. Tarique, elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, has been in exile in London since September 2008 when he obtained bail in other cases filed against him.
