BNP has shrugged off media reports that opposition leader Khaleda Zia had meetings with BNP leader Tarique Zia and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad in Singapore during her current visit. The main opposition party described the news published in some media as fake and politically biased and urged journalists not to publish such items in future. BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed on Friday made the comments at a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters. On June 16, BNP Chairperson Khaleda left home for Singapore for treatment. This is her second visit to Singapore within three months. She went to the country for treatment of her teeth and other complexities on February 19 and returned home on March 1. At a press conference on the night of March 1, Khaleda had announced to go for one-point movement for ousting the present government. Rizvi said some media reports had mentioned that Khaleda met with her elder son Tarique in Singapore while others said she will go to Saudi Arabia to meet Tarique after finishing her treatment in Singapore. He rejected the both and alleged that the news items have no relation with the reality. The BNP leader also rejected the news of Khaleda-Ershad meeting and said, "If they have any interest to meet, why they would go for this [meeting] secretly in Singapore?" It is not anything new that both the leaders go to Singapore for better treatment. The news was produced to confuse people of the country, Rizvi claimed. Ershad went to Singapore for treatment on June 10 and came back home 18 of this month. Rizvi lambasted the prime minister for her recent remarks against Khaleda and asked Sheikh Hasina to maintain political manner in her speech. Meanwhile, former BNP leader Nazmul Huda placed a new proposal to overcome the present political crisis. At a programme at Jatiya Press Club in the capital, he proposed to reform the Election Commission by taking opinions from Hasina and Khaleda. According to the proposal, the chief election commissioner would have the executive power that was in the hand chief adviser of the caretaker government and now in prime minister's hand.
