The two separate strikes, enforced by the transport workers and ambulance drivers in Dinajpur since this morning that caused immense suffering to commuters, have been called off after 12 hours.

The strikes were called off this evening after police assured them of looking into their demands seriously, reports our Dinajpur correspondent quoting Fazle Rabby, president of Dinajpur Transports Workers Unit.

Vehicular movement resumed at 6 pm, he said, adding that all of their fellow workers who were arrested got bail.

The other issues will be resolved after Eid-ul-Fitr, he added.

The workers returned to their works this evening when the strikes were withdrawn, said Sujan Sarkar, additional superintendent of police of Dinajpur Sadar Circle.

Commuters and patients have been sufferings immensely due to strikes since this morning.

The agitating transport workers blocked different roads, including the Dinajpur-Rangpur Highway and Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional road, parking buses to obstruct vehicular movement.

A large number of goods-laden trucks from different districts, including Thakurgaon and Panchagarh, got stuck at various places due to the strike.

Plying of Dhaka-bound buses also remained suspended following the strike.

The transport workers enforced the strike after a case was filed against some fellow workers following a clash with human hauler drivers in Baluadanga area of Dinajpur last night.

On the other hand, ambulance drivers in Dinajpur enforced the strike demanding withdrawal of a case filed against them after a clash erupted between the drivers of government-run M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital and private ambulance drivers in Dinajpur yesterday (April 20, 2022).
