3km tailback on Dhaka-Aricha highway
A 3-kilometre-long tailback was created on Dhaka-Aricha highway, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on the road.
The tailback stretching from Hemayetpur to Turag Bridge was still persisting till last reported at 8pm, our local correspondent reports quoting locals and police.
Abdus Salam, inspector (administration) of Dhaka district traffic police, said the gridlock was created as the Roads and Highways Department suspended traffic movement at a lane of the highway due to the renovation works.
"Our traffic police members are working to bring the situation normal," he said.
Asked, Maruf Hossain, deputy divisional engineer of Roads and Highways Department said it is the part of their regular renovation works.
He added that the gridlock might have been created as the pressure of vehicles on the highway remains high on Thursday.
"The renovation works will end soon," he informed.
