The long-awaited Chittagong University Central Students' Union (Cucsu) election was held in an overall acceptable atmosphere, despite some administrative irregularities, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Central Committee General Secretary Nasir Uddin has said.

"This was a historic moment for the university. Although there were some lapses in management, students participated spontaneously. Overall, I believe the Cucsu election was held in an acceptable environment," Nasir told reporters during a press briefing at the university's Buddhijibi Chattar this afternoon.

JCD Central Joint Secretary Raju Ahmed, Vice President Kazi Zia Uddin, Joint Secretary Masum Billah, and Chittagong University unit JCD President Alauddin Mohsin and its General Secretary Abdullah Al Noman were also present at the briefing.

Nasir further said, "The university administration had pledged to use indelible ink, but that commitment was not implemented. The authorities should have been more careful in maintaining the process. Still, given the active participation of students, we believe the election was largely acceptable."

Echoing the sentiment, JCD Central Vice President Kazi Zia Uddin said, "Our efforts in this election reflected the spirit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. We have prepared an action plan to strengthen the organisation further, which all members must follow."

Cucsu election took place yesterday after a 35-year gap. In the seventh edition of the polls, Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed "Shompritir Shikkharthi Jote" secured victory in 24 out of 26 positions, including the key posts of VP and GS. Ibrahim Hossain Roni won as vice president, Sayeed Bin Habib as general secretary, while the assistant general secretary post went to Chhatra Dal-backed candidate Aiyubur Rahman Toufik.
