Star Digital Report

Brahmanbaria district Awami League's triennial council will take place today (November 12, 2022) after almost eight years.

The council will commence at 2:00pm in the city's Niaz Muhammad Stadium, where a huge boat-shaped stage has been built.

Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, former minister and presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League, will attend as the chief guest. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will inaugurate the programme while Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif will be present as the keynote speaker, reports our local correspondent.

There has been a lot of enthusiasm among the leaders and activists ahead of the council amid widespread speculation regarding who will serve as the president and general secretary of the district unit.

So far, no one has been nominated for the post of president, though several leaders have put up posters and banners announcing their candidacy for the post of general secretary.

They are: Mahbubul Bari Chowdhury Montu, Golam Mohiuddin Khokon, Helal Uddin, and Kawsar Ahmed are among those who have announced.

The last Brahmanbaria District Awami League triennial council was held on December 30, 2014, where RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury MP was appointed as the president, while a 71-member district unit was formed with Al Mamun Sarker as the general secretary.

But ever since, the Brahmanbaria district unit of Awami League has become divided. With today's council, grassroot leaders and activists hope that leaders can unite again.
