31 injured in BNP-police clash at Kishoreganj
Thirty-one people including 11 policemen were injured during a clash between BNP men and law enforcers in Kishoreganj today (November 7, 2022).
The clash took place centering a procession brought out by BNP men marking what they say is "National Revolution and Solidarity Day", reports our Mymensingh correspondent.
According to BNP men, 20 of them suffered injuries as police charged batons and opened fire at the procession in front of the BNP office on Station road this afternoon.
Police detained Abu Naser Suman, general secretary of Kishoreganj district unit of Swechchasebak Dal in connection with the incident.
The district BNP's general secretary Md Mazharul Islam said party leaders and activists were chanting slogans while joining the procession.
Police then put a bar on them and at one stage they charged batons and opened fire, he said.
At least 20 leaders and activists, including district Jubo Dal president Khasruzzaman Sharif, were injured and they are undergoing treatment at different hospitals and clinics, BNP leaders were quoted as saying according to our Mymensingh correspondent.
Mohammad Daud, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kishoreganj Model Police Station, said, "BNP leaders and activists brought out the procession blocking the road and also they were vandalising vehicles. When we tried to control the situation, they started throwing bricks at the police. Eleven policemen were injured. All the injured have been given first aid."
"Police fired 10-12 shotgun bullets to control the situation. Police arrested two people including District Swechchhasebak Dal General Secretary Abu Naser Sumon," the OC said.
He added that the situation is now under control.
