Three arrested in Magura schoolgirl abduction, rape and video circulation case

Two accused remain absconding as investigation continues

Police in Magura have arrested three people in connection with the alleged abduction and gang rape of a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Sreepur upazila and the circulation of a video of the incident on social media.

The victim’s mother filed a case yesterday at Sreepur Police Station, naming five accused, said Ataur Rahman, inspector (investigation) of the police station.

According to the case statement, the incident took place on May 4 when the victim was allegedly abducted from the Sreepur tempo stand and gang raped, with the assault recorded on mobile phones.

She was later released but remained silent after being threatened that the video would be circulated online. The matter came to light after the family found the footage online.

Ataur Rahman told The Daily Star that three people had already been detained during a raid conducted early yesterday morning.

He added that the remaining two accused, named in the case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act, are currently absconding. They are Md Saurav, 21, and Hossain, 20.

After the filing of the case, the three detained were shown arrested. They have been identified as Anik, 19, Nayan Sheikh, 19, and Rana Biswas, 20.
