Expresses deep concern over 'speculative and unfounded' media reports

The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has dismissed reports suggesting that ownership of any of its terminals or facilities might be handed over to foreign entities, calling such claims "baseless, imaginary, false, and misleading."

In a press release issued this evening and signed by the CPA secretary, the authority stressed that all terminals, jetties, yards, and other facilities of Ctg port remain solely under CPA ownership.

"Neither the CPA nor the government has ever had, nor currently has, any plan to hand over the ownership of any terminal of Ctg Port to a foreign entity," the statement said.

The CPA expressed deep concern over what it described as speculative and unfounded media reports regarding the operation of port terminals. It said such reporting was creating confusion among the public and port users.

Clarifying its operational framework, the authority noted that under existing laws and regulations, operators are appointed through a transparent, impartial, and public-friendly process. It warned that reports based on assumptions or unreliable sources without fact-checking could mislead people.

"Fabricated and unrealistic reports about Ctg Port negatively affect its normal working environment, which poses a major obstacle to the country's development as the port is the lifeline of Bangladesh's national economy," the release said.

The CPA urged media outlets to exercise greater professionalism and responsibility in reporting on port-related matters and to refrain from publishing misleading information. It also called for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the port's smooth operations and continued progress, which it said are vital for maintaining stability in the nation's economic activities.
