Jamaat submitted proposals for fair elections

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said his party has submitted proposals to the interim government to ensure a free, fair, and inclusive national election.

Speaking at a meeting with tea workers in Moulvibazar's Kulaura upazila yesterday, he said the proposals were presented during a meeting with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Saturday.

According to Shafiqur, the chief adviser assured them that the upcoming election would be historic -- with every citizen voting freely and fairly.

The Jamaat chief also clarified the party's stance against allowing any humanitarian corridor or foreign use of Bangladeshi ports under the interim government, saying such decisions should be left to an elected government.

If the interim authority wishes to move forward, it must consult all political parties first, he added.

Addressing the plight of tea workers, Shafiqur highlighted their deprivation of basic rights and pledged to improve their lives if elected.

He promised education, modern training, and equal opportunities.

"We want a harmonious society where no one is judged by religion. All citizens are equal stakeholders," he said. "Your call may take time to reach us, but our response won't be delayed."
