270 injured in Eid sacrifice-related incidents in Dhaka in 2 days
A total of 270 people received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) over two days after being injured in incidents related to Eid-ul-Azha sacrifices, hospital authorities said.
According to DMCH Deputy Director Dr Ashraful Alam, 177 people sought treatment for Qurbani-related injuries until 10:00pm on Eid day, while another 95 were treated by 8:00pm today.
Most of the injured suffered cuts from sharp knives while slaughtering animals or processing meat. Others were injured after being kicked or gored by sacrificial animals.
Among the injured was Faruk Molla, 48, from Narayanganj. He said he sustained a cut on a finger of his left hand while helping restrain a cow during slaughter on Eid morning.
According to Faruk, the animal suddenly attempted to stand up, and during the ensuing struggle, the tip of a knife struck his hand.
He initially went to Narayanganj Victoria Hospital but later came to DMCH after failing to find a doctor there.
Hospital officials said all of the injured received primary treatment, with most cases involving minor to moderate injuries.
The first two days of Eid-ul-Azha witnesses a number of single-day butchers -- people who process Qurbani meat for the day.
