Tk 50 reward for cleaning stagnant water in each discarded tyre: Mayor Atiqul

By Star Digital Report

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam today announced cash rewards for cleaning stagnant water in discarded materials like coconut shells, empty packets of chips, tyres, and unused commodes that Aedes mosquitoes use as breeding ground.

"We will give Tk 50 for cleaning each discarded commode and tyre, and Tk 5 for cleaning each coconut shell, packet of chips, and pot. Anyone can collect the cash by submitting the discarded objects to the councilor's office or zonal offices," said the DNCC mayor at a press conference in Nagar Bhaban at Dhaka's Gulshan today.

Urging people to clean their houses for at least 10 minutes every Saturday, the mayor said the cleaning activities will have to be ramped up to check Aedes mosquitoes, and everyone will have to play their part.

He said everyone will have to be careful so that stagnant water does not remain in flower pots, rooftops, and empty containers for more than three days.

Mayor Atique added that DNCC will also award the person providing the most information regarding Aedes larvae, using the "Sobar Dhaka" app.

The mayor also ensured that free dengue testing facilities are available at 54 health centres across DNCC's as many wards.
