Voting underway at Sreemangal upazila by-polls

Voting for by-election of Sreemangal Upazila Parishad, under Moulvibazar district, began at 8am today in a festive atmosphere.

Thousands of tea garden workers have started gathering to vote.

The same information came from various tea gardens in Rajghat and Kalighat unions, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.

Kalighat's Raman Roy said, "Participation in this year's polls is unusual. I've never seen so many voters so early in the day."

Sajen Bhumiz, a voter at Lakhai polling station said, "Earlier, we used to see people voting at the last minute, but this time it is different."

Moulvibazar District Election and Returning Officer, Md Alamgir Hossain, said that in this election, there are four candidates. Bhanu Lal Roy of Awami League, Mizanur Rob of Jatiya Party, and independent candidates Afzal Haque and Premsagar Hajra.

The upazila has a total of 2,33,916 voters.

Mohammad Zakaria, superintendent of Moulvibazar Police, said that at the polling stations, 800 police and BGB members have been deployed.
