Munshiganj UP polls candidate’s supporter killed by rivals, family claims
Locals today recovered the body of a farmer, Mohammad Sattar Sarkar (45), from Nalbunakandi village of Char Kewar union under Munshiganj Sadar Upazila.
Sattar was allegedly killed by supporters of a member candidate ahead of the union parishad election (November 28), reports our local correspondent quoting the deceased's father, Md Suruj Mia Sarkar.
Suruj Mia said, Sattar had been missing since last evening. At 6:30am today, his body was found about 120m away from his home in Nalbuniakandi village. With the help of locals, the body was taken to Munshiganj General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Sattar was a supporter of Md Imran Kabir Iman, a member candidate in Ward-6. Supporters of Md Bazlur Rahman, a rival member candidate, are involved in his son's murder, he claimed.
A few days ago, several of Bazlur's supporters threatened to kill his son. Sheikh Farid (35), Bazlur's brother, and supporters Muza (35), Salem (45), Sujan (32), Nur Mohammad (30), Rasel (28), Sharif (21), Abu Bakkar (20), and a few others are involved in Sattar's death, he added.
Md Abul Kalam, the on-duty doctor at Munshiganj General Hospital's emergency department, said there are no visible signs of injury on the body. After receiving the autopsy report, the cause of death can be determined.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Crime), Sumon Deb, said that police are investigating the incident. If the family files a written complaint, legal action will be taken.
Md Imran Kabir Iman, current member of the ward, demanded that Sattar's death be thoroughly investigated.
Bazlur Rahman denied all allegations, claiming that his rival Imran is trying to defame him ahead of the UP election. He also said that his supporters were not involved in the incident.
