EC to be formed through search committee, Law Minister reiterates

The Election Commission will be formed through a search committee, Law Minister Anisul Huq reiterated today.

"The current EC's term is ending on February 15 next year; there is not enough time to formulate law over this at the moment. Therefore, the search committee will decide on the matter," he said during a press meet at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity today.

"Previously in 2012, when the search committee was formed, the president took opinions of all political parties and everyone agreed to it and later the committee was made into a gazette. Although it is not a law but it's close to one," said the minister.

While reply to questions from journalists, Anisul said if any journalist is wrongfully sued under the Digital Security Act (DSA), they will take measures against it.
