The US Department of State has said it is already taking steps to impose visa restrictions on Bangladeshi individuals responsible for, or complicit in, undermining the democratic election process in Bangladesh.

Washington yesterday said it began applying the visa policy that was announced on May 24 this year. In an email interview, US Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu shared some details of the action with The Daily Star.

Washington wants to support Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s calls for free, fair, and peaceful elections.
