PM to confer Mujib scholarship in India to descendants of those who served in 1971
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said she will confer Mujib Scholarship tomorrow (September 7, 2022) to descendants of soldiers killed or injured during the 1971 Liberation War.
The award is named after Bangabandhu, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of Bangladesh's independence.
Around 200 family members of Indian army personnel will receive these scholarships, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
"We are grateful for the valuable support by the government and the people of India in the great war of liberation of Bangladesh in 1971 which was a watershed moment of our bilateral relations... "
"Tomorrow I will confer Mujib Scholarship to the direct descendants of soldiers or officers of defence forces of India who were martyred or gravely wounded during the Bangaldesh liberation war," she said.
The Hasina government had earlier honoured other Indian supporters of the Bangladesh freedom movement, including writers, journalists and politicians.
