US citizen held with 6.8kg gold at Dhaka airport

Customs officials held a Bangladesh-born US citizen with 59 gold bars, weighing around 6.8kg, at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday morning.

Shahnaz Choudhury, 54, arrived at the airport from the US via Dubai, Sazzadul Islam, assistant revenue officer of Customs House, told The Daily Star.

The value of the gold is around Tk 5 crore, the official said, adding that they did not find any Bangladeshi passport with her.
