Suspended PBI inspector sent to jail for raping college girl in Khulna

A court in Khulna yesterday (June 8, 2022) sent suspended inspector Manjurul Hasan Masud of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to jail in a case filed for raping a 20-year-old college student on May 15, 2022.

Khulna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Mst Dilruba Sultana passed the order after rejecting the bail plea of the accused, reports our Khulna correspondent quoting Public Prosecutor Alok Nanda Das.

According to court sources, the accused was given interim bail for 14 days from the High Court on May 26 in the case. He surrendered before the court yesterday after his bail expired.

On May 25, he was suspended from his post.

According to the case statement, the victim was raped allegedly by Manjurul in Khulna city on May 15, after promising her to solve a problem when she went to the police station over a cyber issue.

The victim immediately lodged an FIR at the Khulna Sadar Police Station, said Hasan Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of the police station.

A case was filed after a medical examination at the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Khulna Medical College Hospital.
