Sued under DSA: Youth lands in jail for ‘threatening’ PM on TikTok

A youth landed in jail in a Digital Security Act case yesterday, hours after he was detained by police in Sylhet's Beanibazar upazila over threatening Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's life and making derogatory comments about her in a TikTok video.

The accused, Md Mohi Uddin Manna, 25, runs a tea stall in Mollapur village in Beanibazar. He hails from Muchegul village in Moulvibazar's Barlekha upazila.

Incensed by the recent fuel price hike, Mohi Uddin uploaded the video on TikTok a few a days ago, said police.

Law enforcers detained him in Mollapur village on Sunday night after being informed by some local Chhatra League activists about the incident.

Yesterday, a local named Jahidul Haque Tahmid filed the case against Mohi Uddin under the Digital Security Act (DSA) with Beanibazar Police Station.

Hillol Roy, OC of the police station, said a Sylhet court sent the arrestee to jail after he was produced before it.

Earlier on Saturday, another youth named Abdul Wahid was detained in Sylhet's Zakiganj upazila over a Facebook video defaming the PM over the hike in  fuel prices. He is now behind bars in another DSA case.
