A Dhaka tribunal yesterday sentenced the son-in-law of Sultan Shahriar Rashid, an executed killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for his derogatory remarks about the father of the nation and for glorifying his killers on Facebook.

Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal announced the verdict in presence of the accused, Fuad Zaman.

The tribunal also fined Fuad Tk 5,000. After the verdict, Fuad was sent to jail with conviction warrants.

On August 15, 2018, Fuad posted derogatory remarks on his Facebook page about the gruesome killing of Bangabandhu, and openly supported the killers.

On August 23 that year, one Mohammad Nazmul Hasan Piyash filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station against Fuad under the ICT Act.
