Robbers stab AC (land) in Savar

A group of robbers stabbed an assistant commissioner (land) and robbed him in Savar on Monday night.

Abu Bakar Siddique, AC (land) of Patuakhali's Kalapara upazila, was undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College Hospital.

Bakar, an officer of 35th BCS batch, went to the BCS Livestock Academy in Savar for attending a training on Survey Settlement Training Course.

On Monday night, he was returning to his training centre after vising his ailing mother in the capital, said Ismile Hossen, AC (land) in Savar upazila.

A group of five to six muggers intercepted him near C&B intersection around 11:30pm, minutes after he got off a bus.

They then stabbed him indiscriminately and looted two mobile phones and other valuables, Ismile said, quoting witnesses.

Locals rushed to the spot, rescued Bakar, and admitted him to the hospital, Ismile added.

Ujjal Ahmed, senior medical officer (surgery) of the hospital, said Bakar's body bore five stab marks.

"He is now out of danger," he added.

Dipak Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, said the law enforcers were trying to find out the culprits.

Locals alleged that robberies were taking place on that intersection repeatedly despite of having highway police patrolling.

Contacted, Azizul Haque, officer-in-charge of Savar Highway Police Station, said they had a manpower shortage and that each patrol team had to look after 80km stretch of the highway.
