Over 300 BNP leaders and activists from different districts got six weeks' anticipatory bail from the High Court today in several different cases.

The cases were filed on different charges including clash with the police and obstructing them from discharging duties during the party's ongoing movements against the government.

The cases were filed in several districts including Dhaka, Naryanganj, Cumilla, Gazipur, Mymensingh and Barishal, court sources said.

The bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Aminul Islam granted the anticipatory bails after hearing petitions filed by the accused BNP men seeking bail in the cases.

The HC benches also asked the accused to surrender before the lower courts concerned in six weeks in connection with the cases, Deputy Attorney General Shaheen Ahmed Khan told The Daily Star.

Earlier in the day, accused BNP leaders and activists appeared before the HC bench for bail in the cases against them.

BNP's Legal Affairs Secretary Kayser Kamal told The Daily Star that the lawsuits were filed against BNP men on false charges to harass them as they are involved in BNP politics.

A section of pro-BNP lawyers including Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal and Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal also appeared for the accused BNP men during hearing of the bail petitions.
