Models Piyasha, Mou placed on fresh remand in narcotics cases
Model and former TV presenter Faria Mahbub Piyasha and model Mariam Akhter Mou were placed today on different terms of remand in four separate cases filed with Gulshan, Bhatara, Khilkhet and Mohammadpur police stations under the Narcotics Control Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury placed Piyasha on a fresh two-day remand after Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector Abdul Latif, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced her before the court seeking seven days' fresh remand.
She was also remanded for six days after investigators submitted petitions to take her into remand in two other cases under the Narcotics Control Act.
Meanwhile, Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder placed model Mou on a four-day fresh remand after CID Inspector Probir Kumar Ghosh, also the IO of the case, produced her before the court seeking a 10-day remand.
Piyasha and Mou were produced before the courts on completion of each of their three-day remands in the same cases.
In the remand prayers, the IOs said both gave important information about the recovery of narcotics which were being verified. So, they need to be remanded for more information about the incidents, the IOs said.
Defences of both accused also submitted petitions seeking bail and cancellation of remand, saying their clients were implicated in the cases as part of a conspiracy to harass them.
The magistrates, however, rejected the bail petitions and passed remand orders.
Detectives on August 1 arrested Piyasha from her Baridhara residence and Mou from her Mohammadpur residence.
They also seized 780 yaba tablets and foreign liquor from Piyasha's residence and 750 yaba pills and 12 bottles of foreign liquor from Mou's residence.
According to sources, CID recently took over the charge of investigation into the cases.
