Man arrested for raping sixth grader in Moulvibazar

Police have arrested a young man in connection with a case filed over the rape of a sixth grader madrasa student in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar.

The arrestee, Niper Ali (22) was held during a raid in Kadipur area of the upazila last night, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent, quoting Binoy Bhusan Roy, its officer-in-charge.

Today, the accused was produced before a district magistrate, which sent him to jail, said the OC.

The incident took place at a village in Kadipur union of the upazila on Thursday (June 9), added the OC.

According to case statement, Niper used to tease the madrasa student on her way to and from the madrasa. A few days ago, he also made an illicit proposal to the student.

As the girl refused his proposal, he broke into her room on Thursday night and raped her when she was alone.

When her parents arrived after hearing her screams, Niper fled, added the case statement.

The victim was first taken to the Kulaura Upazila Health Complex, from where she was shifted to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital as her condition was critical, sources at the police station said.

The next day, the victim's father filed a rape case against Niper with Kulaura Police Station.
