Man arrested over rape of child with disabilities in Pirojpur

Police last night arrested a man in Pirojpur municipality area over rape of a 10-year-old girl with disabilities.

The arrested is Jewel Sheikh (29), of Bagerhat's Morrelganj upazila. He lives in a rented house in Hawla area of Pirojpur municipality, reports our local correspondent quoting police.

Abu Jafar Md Masuduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station, said that the victim's mother filed a case in this regard under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

According to the case statement, the child was alone at home yesterday afternoon when her mother went to work. Jewel, who lived nearby, went into the child's house and raped her.

Later last night, the girl told her mother about the incident when she returned home.

The accused rapist was arrested by police after they learned of the incident from the victim's family members.

Investigating officer of the case, Sub-inspector Milon Haldar of the same police station, said that the victim has been sent to a district hospital for medical examination. The accused will be produced before the district court today.
