Madrasa teacher accused of tying up, torturing student

A madrasa teacher allegedly tortured a student after tying his hands and feet over a trivial matter at Ashulia in Savar.

The incident took place at Kurgaon Charigram Islamia Dakhil Madrasa and Orphanage at Ashulia, reports our Savar correspondent quoting Assistant Sub-Inspector Harun Or Rashid of Ashulia Police Station.

After facing the brutal torture on Wednesday (March 30) night, the 11-year-old madrasa student stayed in the madrasa till Thursday bearing the pain and returned to his home on Friday and disclosed the matter to his parents.

The victim's father said his son stayed at the madrasa six days a week.

"Last Wednesday, my son locked into an altercation with another madrasa student over eating chanachur (snacks). Centring the matter, madrasa teacher Hafez Md Azad beat him up mercilessly after tying his hands and feet," he alleged.

He added that his son could not come home after the torture as the madrasa was open.

"On Friday morning, after returning home from the madrasa on the weekend, his mother took him for a bath and found injury marks on his body," he described.

Later, the victim was admitted to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex and received treatment there.

He said they went to a local UP member for justice, but the member sent them to the madrasa authority saying that they will take steps in this regard.

But the authority did not take any measures against the teacher, forcing them to lodge a complaint at the local police facility, he informed.

The accused teacher could not be contacted over phone despite repeated attempts.

Ataur Rahman, president of the madrasa, vowed to take steps against the teacher.

ASI Harun said legal action will be taken against the accused after investigation.
