Irregularities in prisons staff appointment: HC wants to know of action against involved
The High Court today (November 9, 2022) wanted to know what action has been taken against the persons involved in irregularities in appointing staff in prisons.
The inspector general of prisons has been ordered to submit a report in this regard to the HC in a month.
The HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Ali delivered the order following a writ petition filed by one Jahirul Islam from Moulvibazar seeking necessary directives on this issue.
Jahirul Islam has filed the petition claiming that he had qualified for a prison guard's position through exams in 2003, but did not get the job as another Jahirul Islam was given the position through fraudulent means.
Today, the HC issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain why they should not be directed to give the job of prison guard to writ petitioner Jahirul Islam cancelling the appointment of the other Jahirul, who managed the job in place of writ petitioner.
It also ordered the authorities to dispose of in two months the application submitted by writ petitioner Jahirul seeking his exam results and job to the post, petitioner's lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.
During hearing of the petition recently, the inspector general of police submitted a compliance report to the HC bench through Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al-Mahmud Bashar, saying around 200 prison guards are employed in the prisons of Chattogram and Sylhet.
Of them, the office of inspector general of prisons found that fraudulence occurred in the appointments of 88 guards, and three got jobs doing in place of others with the same names, he added.
