The High Court today confirmed the death sentence a woman and her associate for killing her husband in Jashore in 2014.

The convicts are Sabana Khatun, wife of victim Abdur Razzak of Ajmatpur village in Chowgachha upazila of Jashore, and Abdul Ali.

The HC bench of Justice Shahidul Karim and Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman came up with the verdict after hearing the death reference (lower court documents regarding the case) and the appeals filed by the convicts challenging the lower court judgement on them.

The HC confirmed the death penalties of the two considering the gravity of their offences as they killed Razzak in a barbaric manner, Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ahmed told The Daily Star.

He said the execution of their death sentences will be suspended if they file appeal with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court against the HC verdict.

Defence lawyer Aynunnahar Siddiqua said an appeal will be filed with the Appellate Division challenging the HC verdict.

According to the prosecution, Sabana along with Ali killed Razzak on March 9 in 2004 as the victim protested his wife's extramarital relation.

The brother of the deceased Mintu Miah filed a case with Chowgachha Police Station in this connection the same day.

After examining witnesses and evidence, a Jashore court on March 15, 2016 found Shabana and Ali guilty and sentenced them to death.
