Firing of ACC official: Sharif files writ challenging his dismissal
Sharif Uddin, former deputy assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission, filed a writ with the High Court yesterday challenging the dismissal from his job.
He was sacked on February 16 under section 54(2) of Anti-Corruption Commission (Servants) Service Rules-2008.
According to the corresponding section, the ACC can terminate any officer either issuing a 90-day notice or paying 90 days' salary in cash.
In the petition, Sharif said the commission violated his constitutional rights by applying the section. He also urged the HC to reinstate him.
Contacted, his lawyer Mia Mohammad Ishtiaque said they were expecting a hearing of the petition within a day or two.
Meanwhile, the HC yesterday deferred issuing an order till March 15 on another writ that sought a directive to conduct an independent inquiry into the allegations and counter-allegations over the termination of Sharif.
On February 27, Sharif applied for reinstatement in the job.
He submitted an application to the ACC chairman citing some of his successful works.
ACC sources said the ACC was yet to take any decision on this matter.
Aggrieved by ACC's decision, Sharif's colleagues formed a human chain in different districts of the country.
According to them, Sharif was a hardworking and skilled officer who filed 52 corruption cases while he was in Chattogram.
Because of his stance against corruption, the corrupt threatened him with life, they said, adding that firing him with no room for self-defence was tantamount to supporting corruption.
