Film actress Eka granted bail in drug case

A virtual court in Dhaka today granted bail to film actress Semon Hasan Eka in a case filed against her for possessing narcotics at her residence in Dhaka's Hatirjheel area.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Atiqul Islam passed the order upon a bond of Tk 1,000 with two guarantors after her lawyer submitted a petition seeking bail in the case.

She, however, cannot be released from jail as she was not granted bail in another case filed against her for torturing her house help, said General Recording Officer at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.

On August 2, she was sent to jail after rejecting both the remand and bail petitions in two cases filed with Hatirjheel Police Station for torturing her house help and possessing narcotics.

Hatirjheel police arrested Eka from her residence on July 31 on charge of torturing her house help. Earlier, locals had called 999 and complained of her torturing the house help.

Police also rescued house help Hazera Begum (30) and sent her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

During the drive, police seized five pieces of yaba, some cannabis, and half bottle of liquor from Eka's house.
