DSA case: Ex-SP Babul’s father, brother get bail
A Dhaka tribunal today granted bail to former superintendent of police Babul Akhter's father and brother after their surrender before it in a case filed by PBI chief under the Digital Security Act.
The accused are Babul's father Md Abdul Wadud Mia and brother Md Habibur Rahman Labu.
Judge AM Julfiker Hayet of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal granted them bail till submission of the police report. The judge passed the order upon a bond of Tk 5,000 with two guarantors.
In the same case, Babul was shown arrested on November 10 last year and placed on a one-day remand for quizzing.
Another accused journalist Elias Hossain went abroad to avoid the arrest.
On September 27 last year, PBI Chief Banaj Kumar Majumder filed the case against Babul and three others with Dhanmondi Police Station on charges of spreading false and untrue information regarding Mitu murder case.
Mitu was stabbed and shot to death on June 5, 2016 when she was walking her son to his school bus at the GEC crossing in Chattogram city.
