Documents of HC-appointed Evaly board’s resignation submitted at HC
The documents on the resignation of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik-led board of directors of controversial e-commerce platform Evaly have been submitted to the High Court today (September 21, 2022).
The five-member board of directors headed by Justice Manik, formed by the HC, placed the documents through its lawyer Morshed Ahmed Khan to the HC bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar in compliance with its August 24 directive.
"We have resigned from the post of board of directors of Evaly as we have completed our duties and responsibilities. Our responsibility was to prepare an audit report on Evaly and to form a new board of directors," Justice Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik told The Daily Star.
He said, "We have said in the audit report that Evaly has been established through fraudulence. Its only intention was to collect money from people through fraudulence and to embezzle their money. There are no documents on how much money has been collected and refunded by Evaly. Crores of taka has been transacted by Evaly but there is no specific accounts, statements and documents in this regard. From this situation, it can be assumed that Evaly might laundered money."
"However, we did not declare Evaly bankrupt as new investors can invest money to the e-commerce platform in order to run it. We have appointed five members of the board of directors for Evaly in line with the High Court directives. The new directors include a representative from Commerce ministry, another representative from E-commerce Association of Bangladesh, its former chairman Shamima Nasrin and her mother and brother-in-law," he said.
Justice Manik, a former judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, also said they decided to resign from the board of directors of Evaly yesterday (September 20, 2022) and resigned today morning.
The HC bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar may pass an order on this issue later on.
Mahbub Kabir Milon, managing director of the HC-appointed board of Evaly, yesterday told The Daily Star over phone that the High Court-appointed board of directors led by Justice Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik have resigned.
The five member-board of directors were appointed by the High Court in October last year to run Evaly.
Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik was made chairman of the board.
