Court issues travel ban on former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman, wife
A Dhaka court today issued a travel ban on former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, and his wife Hosne Ara Begum in connection with two cases filed on charges of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 6.56crore.
Judge Md Zakir Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court passed the order after ACC Assistant Director Md Zakir Hossain, also the investigation officer of the cases, submitted two separate petitions in this regard.
ACC Public Prosecutor Ruhul Islam Khan moved the petitions on behalf of the anti-graft body.
In the applications, the IO said the couple amassed amount of money through corruption and irregularities which are inconsistent with their sources of income. So, travel is needed to prevent them from going abroad until the investigation is completed.
Earlier on February 3, the ACC filed three separate cases against Nuruzzaman, Hosne Ara and their son Rakibuzamman.
Nuruzzaman was accused of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 5.32 crore. Besides, suspicious transactions amounting to Tk 62.08 crore were found across his 31 bank accounts.
Hosne Ara was accused of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 1.23 crore while suspicious transactions amounting to Tk 50.43 crore were found across her 25 bank accounts.
Rakib was accused of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 2.07 crore. Besides, the ACC found his suspicious transactions amounting to Tk 22.43 crore across his 10 bank accounts.
