Biman security guard, passenger held with 3.5kg gold bars at Dhaka airport

The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) detained two people, including a security guard of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and seized 30 gold bars weighing 3.5kg at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this afternoon.

The detainees are: security guard Ibrahim Khalil, and Kamal Uddin, a passenger, who landed at the airport on a flight from Saudi Arabia.

The APBn officials due to suspicious movement first detained Ibrahim who handed the gold bars from inside his jacket to the officials, said Ziaul Haque, additional superintendent (Media) of APBn.

Later based on his information, they detained the passenger who carried the gold at the airport, he said.

The gold is worth around Tk 2.25 crore, he said adding Ibrahim was supposed to get Tk 1.95 lakh to take the gold bars out of the airport.
