3 Jamaat leaders held in Barguna

Three local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami were detained while they were holding a secret meeting at a house in Sadar upzila of Barguna today.

The detainees are Barguna District Jamaat-e-Islami General Secretary Md Afzalur Rahman Shaheen, its Barguna Municipality General Secretary Md Zahirul Haque and Betagi Upazila President Md Rafiqul Islam, said Ali Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.

Acting on a tip-off that a group of seven to ten Jamaat leaders and activists were holding a secret meeting at the house of Jamaat leader Afzalur Rahman in Khajurtola area in a bid to carry out sabotage mission, a team of National Security Intelligence (NSI) raided the house this noon, said the OC.

During the drive, the team detained the three Jamaat leaders while others managed to flee the scene, he said.

They also seized nearly 200 Jihadi literature at that time, said the police official, adding that the detainees and seized books were handed over to police.

A case is being filed against them, added the OC.
