Two assistant sub-inspectors of Chandgaon Police Station were withdrawn from their duties yesterday in connection with the death of former ACC official Sayed Mohammad Shahidullah, who died in police custody on Tuesday night.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police closed the two police officials -- Md Yousuf Ali and Md ATM Sohel Rana -- and attached them to CMP Dampara Police Lines, said CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-PR) Spina Rani.

MA Masud, additional commissioner (admin and finance), signed the order.

ASIs Md Yousuf and Md ATM Rana arrested Shahidullah and brought him to Chandgaon Police Station on Tuesday night.

Shahidullah, a former ACC deputy director, died in police custody the same night after cops allegedly did not let his family members give the 65-year-old man medicine needed for his heart condition, family sources said.

Police refuted the allegation and said officers took Shahidullah to a hospital after he fell ill.

However, the victim's family accused the police of showing sheer negligence and torturing Shahidullah after his arrest, leading to his death.

On Wednesday, the CMP formed a three-member committee led by a deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch to investigate the allegations and come up with a report in three days.
