2 arrested for stabbing spice trader to death in Jatrabari

Police today arrested two alleged muggers for stabbing a spice trader in Jatrabari to death early this morning.

The arrestees are Md Sajib (20), and Md Shakil (20), hailing from Gendaria area of Dhaka.

"We identified them in the CCTV footages following the murder in the morning and arrested them from Gendaria area hours later," said Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station.

The arrestees admitted that they stabbed Mosharraf Hossain (55) near South Sayedabad area since he resisted the mugging when the duo brandished knives for money, he said.

Police also recovered two knives from their possession.

A rickshaw-puller found Mosharraf lying around 4:45am today after muggers stabbed him and fled the scene. He asked the victim about his address and took him there.

Mosharraf's relatives later took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said Shah Jamal, the victim's nephew.
