2 arrested over gang-rape of 16-year-old in Faridpur

Police today (August 10, 2022) arrested two people in a case filed over the gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl after confining her in a house in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur on August 7.

The arrestees were identified as Mehedi Hasan Khan (28) a resident of Panchkul village under Chandra union of Bhanga upazila, and Asaduzzaman Munshi (60) the owner of the house, reports our Faridpur correspondent quoting police.

The accused were arrested after the victim's mother filed the case against four named and four unnamed people under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Bhanga Police Station yesterday, said Jewel Hossain, inspector (Investigation) of the police station.

Mehedi was arrested for allegedly raping the girl while Asaduzzaman for assisting the rapists, said Inspector Jewel, also investigating officer of the case.

Efforts are on to arrest the remaining accused, said the police official.

Quoting the case statement, the inspector said Mehedi took the girl to a room in the two-storey building of Asaduzzaman Munshi at Maligram in Bhanga on August 7, where Mehedi and some of his friends raped her overnight.

The girl was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital yesterday for medical test, added the police official.
